Melbourne Wholesale Market
Major Projects Victoria (now Development Victoria)
May 2009 – August 2015
Government – Major Project
Project Finalisation and Handover
The Melbourne Wholesale Market Project involved the design and construction of a new fresh food facility on a 133-hectare green-field site. We were engaged by Development Victoria as the delivery agent for the Victorian Government.
The Melbourne Wholesale Market development consists of a large warehouse, in the form of a main Anchor/E-shaped design. This houses the fruit and vegetable market traders’ stands and stores, with a standalone National Flower Centre, administration complex and a Department of Primary Industries building. Fundamental to the design was the inclusion of a central plant that will deliver the necessary cooling to the 156 store rooms via a reticulating Glycol system.
Externally, a large wetland area was constructed, utilising silt traps and native vegetation to attract native fauna. Further capital projects included an LPG Fuel Station, Waste Station, modification to hardstand and large quantities of bird-netting.
We were engaged on the basis of our solid understanding of complex projects with the ability to assist the client with completion and hand-over. Our team was instrumental in the delivery of the final product to The Melbourne Market Authority. The team was also based for the duration of the project at both MPV’s Victoria office in the CBD and the project office in Epping.
